The silver lining for Dollywood’s 25th season just keeps getting brighter. Just a couple of months after winning two of Amusement Today’s Golden Ticket Awards, the Smoky Mountain Theme Park can now boast a win of the prestigious Applause Award. This honor given by the Liseberg Amusement Park in Sweden goes to the best theme park in the world. It is only given out every two years. Past U.S. winners have included Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Bush Gardens in Williamsburg, VA and even the old Opryland Theme Park in Nashville.
Dolly Parton herself made the rounds this past week on television and elsewhere spreading the good news. She compares the win to taking home an Oscar. Through a news release from Dollywood, Parton gave the credit for the award to Dollywood’s employees. “Our success over the last 25 years is because of the great team at Dollywood that I lovingly call my other family! All those folks back home cooking, cleaning, entertaining and landscaping – I am proud of every one of them.”
The Applause Award wasn’t the only good news for the park this week. The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) awarded Dollywood two Brass Ring Awards. One went to the GemTones, a group that performs outside the Cas Walker store. They received the honor of Best Atmosphere/Street Performer. Imagine, Le Grand Cirque won Best Overall Production. That show was part of the opening ceremonies this year with Dolly Parton joining the group for the performance. Dollywood’s Radio and Television ads also won Brass Ring awards.
Right now, Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas is in full swing. The park is decked out in millions of lights and this is the last year to see Dollywood’s Babes in Toyland show. The 25th season has been filled with special events, big honors and all the fun that makes the park such a hit with thousands of visitors each day.
