We Jam Econo – The Story of the Minutemen is a 2005 documentary about the influential 80’s punk band featuring concert footage and personal interviews with notable artists and musicians Ian MacKaye, Jello Biafra, John Doe, Dez Cadena, Henry Rollins, Richard Hell, Flea, J Mascis, Thurston Moore, Raymond Pettibon and more.
The San Pedro threesome consisting of childhood friends D. Boon, Mike Watt and George Hurley recorded four albums and eight EPs including the classic What Makes A Man Start Fires? and the Black Flag inspired Buzz or Howl Under The Influence of Heat, before Boon was killed in an automobile accident 25 years ago today.
Boon was 27 years-old when he was traveling through Arizona with his girlfriend. Boon was in the back of the van sleeping while his girlfriend fell asleep at the wheel, running the vehicle off the road. Reports state the singer was thrown from the back of the van and broke his neck, killing him instantly. Watt and Hurley would go on to form fIREHOSE.
On Dec 30th Bottom of the Hill will hold a 25th Commemoration of D. Boon with tribute band Economen, The Hormones (all girl tribute to The Ramones), and Malice Cooper ( Alice Cooper tribute). The retrospective is for ages 21 and older; showtime 9PM. Tickets $8
