So New Yorkers, Christmas eve has finally arrived and some of you may be fearful of the temptation that this holiday weekend will bring with its delicious side trimmings, luscious desserts, mouthwatering gravy, or hearty ham especially those of you that have not been exercising on a consistent basis.
Enclosed are 3 quick tips to remember if you choose to exercise on Christmas Day when it comes to eating. The greatest gift you might receive this Christmas might be to get a quick workout in your New York City apartment?
1. Exercise before the big meal– Ok, I admit this one might shout obvious if you are going to exercise before eating multitude amounts of food, yet most people don’t seem to follow through on their good intentions of working out. Instead of stressing on how to get to the gym, refer to my previous articles about home workouts that you can do in your New York City apartment for a convenient and effective exercise routine. Stick with body weight exercises for multi-joint and muscle fiber recruitment.
2. Be active before the dessert– I know it might be hard to take being active on Christmas as a serious notion, however before you are served dessert get up and start moving. Most Christmas dinners have a significant break before you are summoned to the table again so take proper advantage of this time by engaging with children if they are present. Children are extremely active and will have you burning calories in no time running around the house. If no children are present, try to stay active any way you can if it’s from helping clear the table, playing a lively board game with a group, to even standing in lieu of sitting which will prevent you from being stationary.
3. Exercising after the meal– While I don’t naturally recommend working out on a full stomach, getting up after the meal and walking can be beneficial in a variety of ways. If you can pull yourself away from some of the festivities, walking around your neighborhood or even around your New York City apartment will make you feel less bloated than if you didn’t exercise at all. Walking for 30 minutes would be a tremendous goal for a solid calorie burn and to make you feel less guilty about that dessert.
