What type of military doctrine and training a country uses that makes them a dangerous threat to your country’s future survival if your country was forced into a conflict with that country? This article covers what was not covered in the previous article.
The type of military doctrine that is the most effective doctrine for a force to use to obtain victory in a military conflict; thus, the most dangerous to you if that military force is unleashed against you, is a force that believes in maneuver theory and the indirect approach in doctrine. A force who also believes in training their junior officers, and their junior non commissioned officers (NCO’s) to be able to make independent decisions so that small forces can operate independently as small forces, and all the forces can work towards obtaining the overall objective and goals that are given to them by higher command.
The maneuver theory, also known as the indirect approach doctrine means that the military leaders believe that how you defeat your enemy is not by trying to destroy and annihilate their military by using battles to kill lots more of their troops then they kill of you by attacking their largest forces and engaging their strongest forces in combat. Instead, maneuver theory followers believe in defeating their opponent’s ability to fight, and their desire and want and willingness to fight. So by attacking the enemy’s army supply points and supply lines, and their airports, and their leadership, defeating the enemy’s ability to control their army, to feed their army, to lead their army, to supply their army. Maneuver theory is also known as the indirect approach which is avoiding where your opponent’s strongest forces are located and striking and attacking where your opponent is weakest. You go through your opponent’s weak points to attack his command and control, his supply system, or your opponent’s leadership.
A doctrine and training system that allows lower level leaders the independence to make decision when faced with a challenge, and for lower level leaders to be able to respond to challenge, and for small sized force to be able to operate independently. This type of training of lower level leaders is what the U.S. Army uses because it is so effective to have lower level leaders to be able to quickly respond to situations and not to have to wait for orders from the upper command. This style of leadership also allows for forces to be spread further out so they can find weak points in enemy position and the all the forces can either converge on one location, or to be able to strike at the weaknesses found quickly and take advantage of the situation.
Now I need to state that the Soviet Union did not believe in lower level leaders making independent decisions. The Soviet Union believed in the upper level leadership making all the decisions in the war. However, they were still a threat to the United States survival because of the other factors that were stated in the previous article concerning, ideology, and technology, and strength of military weapons, and the amount of resources available to the Soviet Union.
The doctrine and training style of a military force can greatly increase the amount of threat a military can pose to your country’s continued existence, survival.
