Romance is a must in any relationship, especially this time of year. If you are just newly dating or have been married for years, romance should be kept alive and fresh. Plan a date night once a week and do not let anything distract from that date night if possible. Here is a great idea and a very romantic one too.
I had the unique pleasure to experience one of the most amazing and romantic places I have every seen in my lifetime. Viaggio on the River. Viaggio is just 25-30 minutes south of Sacramento nestled in the heart of Lodi Wine Country in the little town of Acampo, Ca. at 100 Taddei Road. Easily accessible from Hwy 99 or I-5.
The minute you pull through the gates into Viaggio you can see and feel that you are about to experience something extraordinary, but you truly have no idea until you walk through the archway and find yourself in another world. A world of elegance, sophistication and warmth. You walk along a beautiful stone street which is like a being in Italy itself with beautiful European Music which invites you to linger amongst the mature olive trees, lush flowers and water fountains, then you arrive to the most unique tasting room and above the door it reads Vino Di Vita, meaning “Wine of Life”. As you enter the tasting room you are welcomed with Tuscan Villa decor that surpasses any grand hotel you could imagine. This time of year the place is decked out to Christmas perfection! There are large tables with extremely comfortable leather chairs and at the bar there are even chairs! There is an adorable boutique with jewelry, scarfs, olive oil and various other items. I also had the pleasure of meeting Tamara Raverty, her and her husband Kent are the Proprietor’s of this amazing place. Tamara said, “Kent put this place together in just 16 months”. It certainly was worth the time and effort.
The fantastic wine was just the icing on this gorgeous facility. Wine tasting is $5.00 and you get a generous taste of some amazing wines. You start off with a Pinot Grigio which was light and crisp and very delightful, they also offer a Chardonnay, Cabernet, Petite Sirah (my favorite), a 2005 Ancient Vine Zinfandel and a California Sparkling Wine. All of which were expertly crafted to perfection.
Viaggio on the River has several different facilities for Weddings, small gatherings, Corporate events or just come enjoy the wine and some delicious food. There is a large beautiful lawn along the Mokelumne river which is perfect setting for any wedding or event. The night we were there they offered a variety of dishes including a very tasty Chicken Tortilla Soup and a Duck Pizza which was so good, we almost had to order another one. It was cooked in a outdoor pizza oven which is located on the patio by the tasting room. The patio has beautiful tables with heaters during winter months as well as a very large wood fireplace to keep you warm. Everything about this beautiful place screamed romance to me.
They have a small boutique in the tasting room which has some beautiful and unique gifts for Christmas or anytime of the year. Make sure to stop by and see all the fun items.
Tamara mentioned that they were considering opening on Wednesday nights for special singles events, as soon as they confirm this information I will be writing an article about it, so keep tuned to this column for more information.
Viaggio is also planning and New Year’s Eve extravaganza, come and enjoy ringing in the New Year with Love Train a seven piece band. It is bound to be an unforgettable evening with dancing, music, elegant dining and exquisite wine.
At the end of the night we all agreed we did not want to leave. Make sure to visit Viaggio, it is a must if you wine tasting in the Lodi area that you make a stop at Viaggio, you will not want to leave either. If you want to make a lasting impression on your date, take him or her here and they will never forget it.
