Do you think you would survive a zombie outbreak? Would you be able to do whatever it takes to survive? Would you be able to survive long enough to be able to clear your name for causing a zombie outbreak while saving other survivors in a mall and dealing with psychopaths who want to kill you for one reason or another while keeping your daughter’s infection under control by giving her a dose of medication that is not only hard to find but really expensive? If you’ve answered yes to the only question relevant to this article, then you’ll like Dead Rising 2.
Five years after the last Dead Rising, you take control of ex-motocross, now zombie killing guy, Chuck Green who is framed for letting loose hoards of zombies and is said to be part of the zombie rights group aptly named CURE. You and your daughter, Katie, escape to a bunker under Fortune City Mall with a few other survivors.
Like the last one, there are missions that the player does aside from the story missions so there is always something to do. Even if you don’t feel like doing that, not to worry, there are plenty of zombies to mutilate and destroy. However, it isn’t necessary to kill loads of zombies and saving survivors does grant more experience points but killing zombies in a group with a large potted plant never gets old.
You have a wide variety of items that you can but the best thing about this game is the MacGuyver feature. That’s not the name officially but it’s a great way of describing the system used to combine weapons to make them more awesome. For example, box of nails +bat= spiked bat, sledgehammer + fire axe= an unholy union, and jewels + flashlight = lightsaber (apparently).
The game play is pretty awesome in the fact that there is always a way to defend yourself and that everything is a weapon. The only issue is how you save. Say you just saved and about five side missions and three levels later you die. At that point you’re left with two options, load from the last save point or start all over. This will be a pain in the butt so SAVE OFTEN.
Overall, DR 2 is a definite buy. For those who aren’t that financially inclined, a definite buy when it drops $10 or so. Also it has multiple endings and your XP carries over so it has good replay value not to mention Co-op over internet or local.
Who framed Chuck? Why would they do that? Is there a bigger plot afoot? Why is there a civil rights group for zombies? Three out of four of the questions will be answered.
