Cee Lo Green’s Lady Killer Out Now!!
The album has and old school feel to it, reminiscing of the Motown days but with a Cee Lo Green twist. The first single ‘F*ck You’, is intoxication track and a huge success, the follow up single ‘It’s Ok’ has a similar rhythmic touch to ‘F*ck You’. Sounds like something The Supremes would of done. Other tracks like ‘Bodies” and ‘Old Fashioned’ have a lay back and roll up something or pour some yak feel to them, others like ‘Love Gun’ are more aggressive and direct. This album sounds like the soundtrack to many movies, it most certainly showcases Cee Lo Green’s many talents, but unfortunately no rapping in this album more pop/R&B driven. Either way it’s definitely a buy, the writing is good, the beats are good, and if you have an old school soul, you will love this album
Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday Release 11-21-10
Ms. Minaj’s album is the most anticipated female Hip Hop’s album since Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, so of course I gave this album my full concentration. Aside from the Lil Kim beef and all the other controversies, this album starts addressing all the “other” female artists, ‘I’m The Best’, ‘Roman’s Revenge’, and‘Did It On’em’ all go in, almost like she inhaled and exhaled with those 3 tracks. The next couple of songs were from the heart songs. Songs that one can tell she was saying from the heart including her 2nd single ‘Right Thru Me’. The will.i.am-produced track ‘Check It Out’is Nicki’s attempt for a pop crossover song, its Z100 material. ‘Check It Out’s hook is catchy; and Nicki does a good job incorporating her style to the will.i.am’s beat. Nicki completely abandons the funny voice on this album, but does spend quite a bit of time going at her “haters” maybe a little too much, also she abandoned the sex driven lyrics that made past artist so successful, furthermore her biggest gimmick the “Barbie” movement did not make the album, no a mention of “Barbie” or “Barbz” (except the track ‘Massive Attack’). Overall the woman will feel it, the men um not as much. Its very feminine not too many of those street anthems that Foxy, and Kim had, but the album is done right, beats are good, lyrics are tough, Nicki did her thing. 1st week estimates, 350k-550k.
Nelly’s Nelly 5.0 Out Now!!
The multi platinum, Grammy award winning, artist has just released his 6th studio album of his career, 2nd album in 6 years. Nelly 5.0falls short of the “Nelly” standard. His collaborations don’t work and most his songs have a strong melodic tone which is ok if you’re a singer but not for a rapper, and even though Nelly has been known to excel with those kinds of tracks, this album sounds like he is trying to hard to recreate the past. Singles like ‘Just a Dream’, ‘Move That Body’, and ‘Long Gone’ though they’re decent songs; they’re not up to the traditional Nelly we are used to. I couldn’t find a song that stood out to me, each song sounds like they next song, and quite frankly bored me after the 1st 5 or 7 songs. Nelly is an awesome artist, but maybe lost some of his swag without his St. Lunatics influenced tracks, overall his next album needs some super producer help, and more rapping. You’re a rapper so rhythm.
Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy Release 11-22-10
Kanye ‘Yeezy’ West’s newest project is not what you expect. This album is 13 songs of raw and pure artistry, most songs though are long, and some are more than 5 minutes. Besides ‘Power’, ‘Monster’and ‘Runaway’ most of the album is darker, and emotional. ‘Blame Game’ feat. John Legend is a track that quiets any rumblings of how he feels about the whole Amber Rose situation. Each track is like he took parts of his diary and put it in song. There’s no doubt that Kanye West is a lyrical artist for those that doubt his lyrical prowess he goes in on tracks like, ‘Dark Fantasy’, Monster, So Appalled, Devil In A Dress feat Rick Ross, and Gorgeous feat. KiD CuDi & Raekwon . Though this album is dope, it’s not his best effort but close to it, definitely one of the best albums of the year.
Lloyd Banks The Hunger for More 2 Release 11-22-10
It’s not a secret the G-Unit as a whole has lost some of that magic it had earlier in the decade. Never the less there’s still certain expectation that a 50-Cent driven company has, and besides 50, Lloyd Banks has been the most successful artist off the G-Unit label. His 1st album was widely accepted but his 2nd effort well, not so much. ‘Rotten Apple’ was considered a flop and took Banks a couple steps back. After taking four years off his 3rd album which includes the club banger ‘Beamer, Benz, or Bentley’and ‘Any Girl’ feat Lloyd a good follow up single. The 3rd single ‘Start It Up’ feat Kanye, Swizz, Ryan Leslie, and Fabolous is good but not a banger. This album is solid, his lyrics are good, and the beats are up to par. This album only has one feature from 50 Cent, which shows that he is really trying to get his own identity. The only draw back is, it’s the same content, same money, cars and I’m rich bitch attitude, and it needs to be more soulful with honest lyrics. ‘I Don’t Deserve You’feat. Jeremih is a track that goes off to the left from the rest, but definitely something for the ladies for sure. Overall, good album, and I estimate moderate sales because he going up against Nicki Minaj and Kanye all in the same week.
