Michael and Kevin Wu were eliminated from “The Amazing Race” season 17 on Sunday’s episode, I Want to be in the Circus, That’s Where I Belong, after incurring 60 minutes worth of penalties.
“I’m happy with how we did,” Kevin said. “You know, I’m really proud of my dad for doing this race with me. He’s always been my role model, so, of course, he sets a good example.”

The race for the last spot in the next leg was really tight between Chad and Stephanie and Michael and Kevin. While Michael and Kevin were one of the first teams to arrive at the leg’s final challenge, it took Michael a long time to find the rhythm and accuracy needed to complete the Road Block, giving Chad and Stephanie, who had been last the entire leg, the opportunity to pull ahead. They were given even more opportunity to pull ahead when Michael and Kevin had an issue with the cab driver. Michael and Kevin regained the advantage, though, when Chad and Stephanie were told they had to pay their cab driver before checking in. Michael and Kevin were the sixth team to arrive but broke two rules, resulting in a 60 minute penalty. Chad and Stephanie arrived back at the pit stop before the hour was up.
Michael and Kevin are no stranger to being last. They finished last in Ghana (episode three) but were saved by the revelation of a non-elimination leg. Unfortunately, the team wasn’t this lucky this time.

Saint Petersburg, Russia
The teams stayed in Saint Petersburg for leg seven. Jill and Thomas, having finished the previous leg first, were the first to depart to leg seven’s first location – Avtovo Circus.
At Avtovo Circus the teams chose their Detour challenge. Their choices were learning a Russian folksong on the accordion or performing a traditional plate-spinning routine, keeping 10 plates spinning for 10 seconds. Lucky for teams two through seven, the circus was not open when team number one arrived. In fact, all seven teams began their tasks at about the same time because they all had to wait for the circus to open. Jill and Thomas and Chad and Stephanie were the only teams that switched challenges (plate spinning to folksong); Brook and Claire were the first team to finish the Detour.

After the Detour, the teams were sent to a tower that would lead them to their next clue. The teams were supposed to notice a small figurine on a windowsill that matched a large, ornate building across town – Church of the Savior on Blood –, but it was easier said than done. Most of the teams were looking for a red and yellow flag, and it took a lot longer than it should have for all of the teams to find it, especially Chad and Stephanie.
The clue at the church sent the teams to Peter and Paul Fortress to place gorodki, a game similar to bowling. One person from each team had to knock down three pin formations by throwing a long, wooden pole. The teams were on top of each other during the entire leg, so placement really came down to who could was the best gorodki player.
