City dwellers celebrate the holidays with individual self expression. The design directors of INSTUDIO restyle their holiday look each year by using a variety of different decorations using recycled or created paper to wrap gifts and decorating with interesting items from hardware, office supply or recycling stores. This approach gives gifts and decor a new look.
For 2010 Samuel Fleming Lewis purchased a pair of Italian cypress trees from Lowes for $3.33 each, placed them on a saucer under the plastic pot and shaped crushed craft paper around each pot into a cachepot.
Gifts were wrapped in leather embossed construction paper or craft paper with brown animal print fabric ribbons and yellow/green piping, all purchased at a San Francisco recycling center for artists and teachers called “Scrap”. Unusual color combinations can be used for holiday wrapping as long as there is high contrast or graphic shapes to add interest to the paper wrapping.
A hand held hole punch was used on the perimeter of paper that was cut into shapes or folded around gifts and sewn with fabric scrap ribbons or colorful piping to enclose the gifts. See more 2010 holiday décor ideas at INSTUDIO on facebook. Be creative with your holiday wrap.
