Riding a roller coaster week, the Augusta RiverHawks won their first set of consecutive games against the Knoxville IceBears. Unfortunately, they were denied three in a row by the Fayetteville FireAntz Saturday night.
Thursday night’s win against the IceBears came from a 9-3 victory by Augusta. Matt Auffrey, Neil Graham, and Egor Minorov dominated the game as they became scoring machines that virtually stunned their opponent.
It was an exceptional week for RiverHawks standings. Graham holds the league’s number one spot with 14 points followed by Auffrey at number three with 11 points. To note, Minorov scored his first two professional goals against Knoxville on Friday night.
Minorov’s experience was not only personal but involved the entire team.
“It was nice to finally get the monkey off the back” he said. “I couldn’t have done it without the help of my linemates and the team. I’m just glad I could help the team in any way that I can for us to get the win.”
The team brought their game faces Friday night, no doubt. Team members did not adjust themselves by any given stratgery, they were themselves.
“We didn’t go into the game with a different game plan at all” Minorov said. “We just came into the game knowing we needed to play the systems, and like Coach Ralph said, we will be rewarded if we play them right. We got the bounces we needed, and it lead to an explosive scoring night for the team. Now we know what we are capable of doing when everyone on the team is on the same page.”
Another form of concussion that bewildered the IceBears was the number of fights that littered the ice.
The RiverHawks went on the road to Knoxville where they brought home a win at a score of 3-2. Saturday’s final was 3-2 in favor of the FireAntz.
This coming week will be a two game road trip that will span two states.
November 11, Augusta RiverHawks at Huntsville Havoc.
November 13, Augusta RiverHawks at Pensacola Ice Flyers.
Augusta’s next home game will be November 18 against the Louisiana IceGators.
