Karolinska Insstitutet researchers in Sweden, established association between sleep and appearance and health. Looks like the old wives tale of needing enough sleep is not a tale after all.
This is the first scientific study that proves beauty sleep does make a difference.
The study observed 23 participants between the ages of 18 and 33 years old. Participants had their photo taken between two and three pm at two different occasions. Once after normal sleep and once when deprived sleep. People who smoked were not included in the study and alcohol was prohibited two days prior to the experiment.
Researchers discovered when participants were sleep deprived they appeared less healthy and attractive.
The study had noted up sleep deprivation a person looks six percent less healthy and attractive. Which is logical because you notice heavy bags under a persons eyes making them appear less healthy.
Lack of sleep can produce a lot of effects from bags under the eyes, feeling a little dehydrated, more irritable and just do not feel like smiling much.
What happens is when the inside of the body does not get sufficient sleep it affects mood, the way the brain processes new information on a cellular level and could cause increased inflammation, which could lead to cardiovascular disease. It has been rumored that people with insufficient sleep are at a greater risk for obesity and insulin resistance.
Try going to sleep every night at same time and waking up at the same time every day.
Avoid stimulants before going to sleep like caffeine and alcohol.
Many people have had great success using alternative treatments for diseases and conditions including sleep problems. Here are a few:
Some researchers have suggested that chiropractic treatments may be helpful in the treatment of sleep problems. Especially in younger children who have severely disturbed sleep.
Chiropractic adjustments can aide in clearing up energy blocks throughout the body and increase circulation of tight and tired muscles. Which results in a deeper relaxation.
Sleep disturbances are a nervous system event, the whole system has to be considered. Sleep disorders are ongoing and disabling. Most are able to be diagnosed and effectively treated with chiropractic techniques.
Acupuncture a traditional Chinese medicine is most often used to treat insomnia and sleep problems. Specific acupuncture points are used and sometimes acupuncture can be used with electric stimulation of the needles.
Preliminary clinical trails have shown improvements in people with poor sleep. More research is still needed.
Easy stretching and relaxation exercises can enhance mental and physical relaxation improving quality of sleep.
Yoga exercises are in a three part sequence:
Breathing techniques for relaxation for five minutes.
Gentle stretching for ten minutes.
Breathing relaxation or yoga Nidra for ten minutes.
