If you’re a social media lover you’ll find Boxcar very useful for push notifications not currently available on the iPad. Boxcar supports notification for Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Google Voice, RSS Feeds and email accounts among others.
Facebook does not currently have an iPad app. Running the iPhone version on the iPad works just fine, complete with push notifications; However, if you find the fuzzy and pixelated version of the app annoying then it’s better to access the full Facebook website via Safari. Unfortunately, using Safari means no push notifications. This is where Boxcar comes into play. Simply add your Facebook account to the Boxcar app and voila! You have push notification for Facebook on your iPad.
Different settings in Boxcar lets the user control how notifications display on the device. A notification can be set to be viewed in Boxcar, the Facebook app (if installed), or Facebook’s website in Safari. There is an expansive library for choosing the sound played when a notification comes in. Sound notifications can also be disabled by choosing none. Badges can be turned on or off. Alerts can show the full message, a generic “you have a new notification” message, or can be turned off.
Twitter and other accounts
While there are iPad Twitter apps, none have built in push notifications. The same goes for some email accounts when set up in the Mail app. Again, Boxcar can remedy the lack of push notifications. Twitter, email, and other applications are set up the same as Facebook. Simply add in the account information and Boxcar will handle the notifications.
Boxcar is FREE in the App Store on iTunes or on your iDevice and is available for both iPad and iPhone.
