The Capital Region will end the work week on a relatively dry and mild note. A strong cold front will slowly approach the region, from the west, through the day today. Some showers are possible across the region late in the day, though they should be scattered at best. A better chance of rain looks to occur tonight and early tomorrow morning as the frontal system crosses the region.
The weekend looks to start a bit showery and unsettled on Saturday, as the front marches east and stalls over our region Saturday morning. A wave of low pressure develops along the front on Saturday, which may keep a few more showers in the forecast, especially for the morning hours. There may be some gradual improvement by afternoon as the front gets kicked eastward by a faster moving, reinforcing, cold front sweeping south-westward from Canada.
This front attempts to cross the region on Sunday, and looks to slow and weaken considerably as another ripple of low pressure forms along the initial boundary, which looks to be located over the Carolina’s and into the eastern Atlantic Ocean. Significant precipitation looks to be shunted well south and east of the immediate Capital Region during this time frame, though a few renegade showers cannot be ruled out. This will be due to the decaying secondary system.
Temperatures will start out the period above normal to close the work week, but will tend to below normal readings over the weekend as an autumn airmass infiltrates the region.
