Mother Risks Life, Saves Children from Fire
A Chesapeake mother and her four kids
Are soundly asleep in their snug beds
When suddenly their dream-like state
Of subconsciousness awakes
To sleep interrupted by a living nightmare
Discovering their home crumbling beneath a fire
The mother awakes to a fire originating
From her trailer home’s front kitchen
She grabs her two slumbering kids
Clutches them close, covering their eyelids
Escaping from the two bedrooms in back
Safely sends them out the back door in a flash
When just as quickly, the kitchen flames explode
Blocking two more kids hiding in front part of home
Motherly instincts quickly kick in
You’ll give your own life to protect your kin
This Chesapeake mother, runs through the flames
Before the lives of two other kids, fire could claim
Now on the other side of the blazing kitchen flames
She scoops up her other two kids, wins life’s game
As safely outside, stands mother and four children
With only one child, one mother, badly burning
Though the game of life has now been won
– Won because they live to see the rising sun
Their lives have now been turned upside down
As they’re left with nothing, but PJs & nightgowns
But what has been lost, can soon be found
Family closeby, will help keep them safe and sound
Though shelter found, protects this family
What caused this fire, to set off accidentally?
Some have said, a newly bought space heater
May have been culprit, of this home’s fire
Still reports are unofficial, how the fire was applied

But still it’s strange, how it’s this family’s second
Home lost to a fire, lives again, a fire threatened
When last time, eight years ago, they escaped
Able to save some, of what once belonged to them
