A Connecticut retailer is getting some unwanted attention just as the holiday shopping season begins. It seems their new television commercial has upset some state residents who don’t appreciate the ads attempt at humor. Maybe that’s because they ‘joke’ about buying a wife during the commercial. Becker’s Jewelers, based in West Hartford, Connecticut, began running the new TV commercial on NBC’s affiliate station, WVIT in Connecticut over the past few days. The commercial spot starts with the question, “You can buy anything on the internet, right?” In a terribly failed stab at being humorous, the commercial answers saying “You can even buy a sultry wife from Slovakia!” while the computer screen on the ad shows a web page called, “Buy A Wife.com.” Just one problem: a website with that same name is a vicious porn site in the real world.
A campaign has started online to have the advertisement pulled from the airwaves as soon as possible.
