How nice it is to know that a mere fifteen minutes away is a restaurant where they know how to cook seafood? Well, if you’re a shellfish enthusiast, stop into Delphias Restaurant and find out for yourself.
Delphias Restaurant and Bar, located at 236 Genesee Street in Chittenango, has exactly what it takes to be successfull. The food is good, the prices are competitive, and the service is wonderful. But what is most surprising is the fact that they know how to cook shellfish.
This past Sunday my companion and I, along with her her two kids, stopped for dinner at Delphias. Upon first entering this quaint and rather eclectic eatery, one couldn’t help but notice how busy they were at 6:00 pm. We were seated immediately in the back dining room against the wall of a spacious, yet cozy dining area which was perfectly lit; not too bright, not too dim.
We were all very hungry. First came the medium chicken wings($7.99). Perfect! Crispy, steamy, fall-off-the-bone-tender Buffalo-style chicken wings that had just the right amount of kick to them.
Next, a round of house salads that came with each meal. Again…perfect! Fresh lettuce greens, a couple of cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, and black olives. The bleu cheese dressing was chunky and creamy, just the way it’s supposed to be.
Around the table: Shrimp Scampi($14.99), Seafood Alfredo($15.99), Kids Spaghetti and Meatballs($5.99), and finally a scrumptuous looking Grilled Chicken Club Sandwich($7.99). Wow!! Each dish looked better than the one before it. (My companion wouldn’t let me near her ‘soon-to-be-devoured sandwich; smart girl! She said she wanted every last morsel, and risking it past my corner of the table would have lessened her experience).
However, the seafood dishes were excellent. It’s unusual for shrimp to be absolutely perfectly cooked but, the Shrimp Scampi was just that. Seven briney, large black-tiger shrimp with exactly the right amount of garlic, herb, butter, and sauce texture rested atop a bed of rice pilaf. If there had been twenty shrimp, they would have disappeared! That’s how good they were.
The Seafood Alfredo, with jumbo shrimp and sea scallops, was tossed with cheese tortellini, tomatoes, fresh mushrooms, and had a cream sauce that was actually not too heavy. Most Alfredo sauces are on the heavy side, but this one was nice. Before hand our waitress(Kim) warned that it was a lot of food for a young man to attempt. Upon checking on our table a few minutes after the food arrived, her first words to my companion’s son were “You hardly made a dent in it”! We all got a good laugh. Kim was extremely charming and very professional.
My companion raved about her Chicken Club Sandwich, although I’m still stewing over her reluctance to share with me(just kidding). Her daughter said that she only had better Spaghetti and Meatballs once before in her life. That, for a fussy eater like her, is quite the compliment.
Chittenango, your town has a gem of a restaurant. I strongly recommend Delphias Restaurant and Bar to all who enjoy very good food at reasonable prices. No doubt that we will certainly be back soon, maybe next time for lunch.
