However, whether or not your idea of stress-relieving vacationing involves being pampered at a spa, or challenging yourself with intense physical activity in the great outdoors, or relaxing with yoga and meditation in another country over the holidays, just do it!
To recover from everyday stress and tension perhaps find social interaction somewhere new. Seek a quiet place to release the strenuous physical activity and constant nose-to-nose contact in daily working life. Find a place where there is commitment, no cell phones and let it be a getaway that offers soothing spots to dissolve anxieties, fears and apprehensions that seem to spin out of control as we read the newspaper headlines which can haunt our dreams. Destination resorts in gorgeous natural settings seem to work magic on most people. Being in nature cleanses the soul. Remember, however, that a vacation is a state of mind.
Whatever the form or the location of the vacation or retreat make sure that it is effective in removing stressors, and more importantly, take breaks from potential stress related situations. In other words, when you’re away at a beautiful beach or a luxurious spa or in another country, do not let work and other responsibilities infringe on your private time away. Don’t leave a phone number with anybody, don’t check up on your emails, and don’t bring your laptop. This may sound really difficult but you’ll be the better for it at the end of your time away. You’ll be readjusted and realigned physically and mentally and you’ll be able to handle life’s situations with relaxation. Get rid of imagined threats, work, chores, malfunctioning relationships, and get into what you really want and what you’re really all about inside. Getting away is a powerful antidote to stress.
If you’re planning a vacation over the holidays this can be your best defense against everyday tension. Focus on making better decisions and choices when you’re away. Many can be healed by natural resources, good, clean, fresh air, and scenic surroundings. Restorative spa treatments and yoga workouts can be luxurious and healing. Meditate, do cardiac exercises, use forgiveness, and move forward into a simpler and more free lifestyle. Only you know what is best for you and what will work. Going on a retreat out of the country in Mexico, Peru, or one of the islands, is soothing and smart.
