A Christmas weekend storm or “The Big Daddy” Storm as some meteorologists are calling it, is going to threaten the major cities of the megalopolis for late Christmas weekend. The potential is there for a foot or more of snow for areas near Washington DC north to Maine by Monday evening.
Currently, the piece of energy in question in located over northern Arizona and will move eastward toward the southeast and then gather energy from the warm waters off the coast along with atmospheric energies located in the midwest. This “phasing” of energies is what’s needed to create a deep area of low pressure with lots of moisture supplied from the Atlantic for a snowstorm in the targeted areas mentioned.
Western New York will be too far west in the current forecast track to have any chance for significant snows. Christmas Day is looking cloudy and seasonally cold with temperatures in the 20’s.
