These days eating out can be very pricey. Being a single parent can make these ventures even more difficult. We all like to get out and have a nice meal without having to spend an entire paycheck. Single parents often times have to work twice as much to make ends meet.
My mission is to research Omaha’s restaurants that are affordable for families. Fortunately for my readers I like to try all different types of restaurants. I am a single mom of three teenagers. Teenagers seem to have bottomless stomachs which can make eating out an expensive venture.
Each week I will tell you about an area restaurant that has good food and won’t break the bank. This week I actually ate two restaurants with two very different reviews.
The first restaurant was China Palace on Saddlecreek. We ordered crab rangoon, garlic chicken, chicken lo mein, and fried rice. All the food tasted really good and the portions were large. The total bill was just over $20. The only negative thing I can say is the service was not very good. There was only one server and even though there were only nine tables, he was running around like crazy. We had to get up and ask for water twice and no one ever came to see how are food was. I may be a little harsh on the service review having been a waitress for twenty years. However, I believe that no matter how busy a restaurant is, someone should always be checking on the guests. If you don’t mind the slower service this a good place to go for inexpensive good tasting chinese food.
The second restaurant was more a fast food restaurant. It was my son’s 16th birthday so it was his choice. We went to Fazoli’s on 80th and Cass. I am not a big fan of ordering at a counter. I work hard and when I go out to eat, I want to be waited on. Again, it was my son’s birthday so I didn’t get a say in where we ate. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and two chicken parmegan combos. The combos came with a beverage and your choice of a slice of pizza or a salad. Our total bill was $34 for four people. Our favorite thing is the endless breadsticks. We like the fact that someone walks around the restaurant with fresh, hot breadsticks. We all left very full. For a fast food restaurant, Fazoli’s has pretty decent food. It wouldn’t be my first choice for an Italian restaurant but if you are looking for a quick and tasty Italian meal that won’t bust your budget, Fazoli’s is the place to go! Here’s a question for my readers.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BUDGET AND KID FRIENDLY RESTAURANT? Let me know I will check them out. Until next week – Happy eating!
