San Francisco’s Dine About Town is set to begin January 15. From January 15 through January 21, 2011, you can enjoy a 2-course lunch for $17.95 or a 3-course dinner for $34.95. Check the web site for participating restaurants, their Dine About Town menu (Dine About Town veterans know to check the restaurant’s regular menu to see if the Dine About Town price offers a good deal) and availability. Some restaurants are only participating for lunch, others are only doing dinner and some both. It’s a great opportunity for San Francisco residents and visitors to eat at one of the city’s top restaurants at a discount price.
San Francisco is not the only city with special restaurant weeks. Here is a listing of cities across the U.S. offering discounted prix-fixe menus during certain weeks of the year:
Chicago Restaurant Week
The 4th annual Chicago Restaurant Week is scheduled for February 18 through February 27, 2011. Over 170 restaurants participated in 2010’s Restaurant Week program, which offered 3-course lunches for $22 and dinners for $32 per person. Notable restaurants that participated in 2010’s Restaurant Week: Blackbird Restaurant, David Burke’s Primehouse and Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse.
dineLA Restaurant Week
dineLA Restaurant week runs from January 23 through January 28 and then from January 30 through February 4, 2011. Foodies who love to dine out on Saturdays are out of luck here. This being Los Angeles, their Restaurant Week works a bit different from that of other cities. 3-course lunches can be $16, $22 or $28 while dinners are $26, $34 or $44. Check back for a listing of 2011’s participating restaurants. Notable restaurants that participated in 2010’s Restaurant Week: Campanile, Spago Beverly Hills, and Ortolan.
Miami Spice will be returning August 2, 2011. In 2010, Miami Spice ran from August 1 through September 30, making it one of the longest dining discount programs offered. 3-course lunches ran $22 and dinners were $35. Notable restaurants that participated in 2010’s Miami Spice: Michy’s, Il Mulino and Wish.
NYC Restaurant Week
Still incensed by David Chang’s comments last year about San Francisco’s overrated culinary offerings? Then head on over to New York during NYC Restaurant Week, running from January 24 through February 6, 2011, to see how their restaurants compare. Lunch is $24.07 and dinner $35 (Saturdays excluded). Check back for a listing of participants. You can sign up now to receive a reminder when reservations begin on January 12.
Travelocity is making it a little easier to take part in the country’s most established restaurant week program. Book a package with Travelocity and you’ll get hotel savings and early restaurant reservations (by two days). Book a package over $250 with your American Express card and an additional $75 will be discounted off the price. Notable restaurants that participated in 2010’s New York Restaurant Week: Nobu, One if By Land Two if By Sea and Spice Market. Unfortunately, none of David Chang’s restaurants participated last year and most likely ever won’t (count yourself lucky if you can even get a reservation).
These are just some of the cities that foodies can visit for great meals at a discounted price. Other cities with restaurant weeks are San Diego, Boston, Charlotte, and Vancouver.
