Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings for Week 16

by foam cage

It is time for the championship in most fantasy football leagues. Last week there was no evil surprise in the land of quarterbacks as there was in Week 14 when Aaron Rodgers dropped. Sure Brett Favre went down, but no one should have started him anyway.

There are some good matchups this week and here are my Top 20 quarterback rankings for Week 16 of the 2010 fantasy football season.

1 Michael Vick – There is no better quarterback in football right now. He is throwing for more yards than he has in his entire career and is still running better than most running backs. Minnesota is not very good at stopping the run and Vick should have a huge game as Philadelphia fights for a first round bye.

2 Drew Brees – Drew Brees hasn’t surpassed 200 yards since Week 13 but he has throws six touchdowns in the past two games. The Saints have an outside chance of catching Atlanta with help and beating the Falcons this week is imperative. Expect Brees to pull out all the stops.

3 Tom Brady – New England will be running the ball a lot in this game but don’t think Brady won’t get his numbers. Buffalo is horrible on defense and Brady has not thrown an interception since Week 6, while hurling 21 touchdowns over that time.

4 Peyton Manning – Indianapolis is turning on the jets at just the right time. It hurts that Manning lost Austin Collie just when he got him back but he is playing the Oakland Raiders and should be just fine in the fantasy football championship week.

5 Philip Rivers – Everyone talks about Brees, Brady and Manning but Philip Rivers is just as quality a fantasy football quarterback and, after Vincent Jackson’s return to prominence last week, Rivers looks to be in for a huge game against Cincinnati this week.

6 Aaron Rodgers – The best quarterback in fantasy football went down two weeks ago, costing many teams their fantasy championship hopes. However, do those who still won feel confident to start him in their championship now? He is back at practice and will start and, looking at his numbers this season, there is no reason not to start him unless you have another top 10 player on your roster.

7 Matt Schaub – Schaub has not been the game changing quarterback fantasy football owners were hoping for when they drafted him this year and Andre Johnson is questionable for this game. However, Denver is horrible and Schaub has eclipsed 28 fantasy points in his last three games, so starting him should not be a problem this week.

8 Josh Freeman – Josh Freeman is a top 10 fantasy football quarterback option? He is when he plays Seattle. He is second in the NFL in quarterback rushing yards (330) and has an 8/1 TD-to-INT ratio since Week 10. He should have one of his better games of the season this weekend.

9 Jon Kitna – Jon Kitna has filled in nicely for Tony Romo in Big D. He has four games with 300-plus passing yards and has 15 touchdowns with 10 interceptions since taking over as starter. Arizona poses no threat defensively, so expect Kitna to put up some nice numbers this weekend.

10 David Garrard – Jacksonville stumbled last weekend, allowing Indianapolis to even up the AFC South and need to rebound this weekend against Washington. Garrard played a solid game against the Colts, throwing for 294 yards with two TDs and one interception. He is a nice lower tier first string fantasy football quarterback this weekend.
