Week 15 left many fantasy football owners scratching their heads when they realized they lost in the playoffs despite owning the best running backs in fantasy football. Arian Foster, the best running back in the league, only scored 11 points in PPR leagues. Peyton Hillis, Maurice Jones-Drew and Michael Turner all scored less than that. Adrian Peterson didn’t even play and, since his game was a Monday night affair, owners were left for dead at the last minute.
Let’s hope those of you who owned these players were saved by other positions and have the chance to rebound in the fantasy football championship week. Here are my Top 20 running back rankings for Week 16 of the 2010 fantasy football season.
Arian Foster – Part of Arian Foster’s problems in Week 15 was due to nagging injuries. The good news is that Foster is practicing hard and looks like he is ready to move on. With the Denver Broncos up this week expect Foster to put up some monster numbers as Denver has allowed 22 touchdowns to running backs this year.
Maurice Jones-Drew – MJD absolutely killed his fantasy football owners in Week 15 and he knows how that feels as a fantasy owner himself. The 46 yards were the lowest since Week 2. Jones-Drew (knee) has missed practice two days so far this week and is questionable but he should play and, against Washington, should rebound.
Darren McFadden – McFadden eclipsed 100-yards for the second game in a row and gets one of the worst run defenses in the league this weekend in Indianapolis. He surpassed 1,000 yards against Denver and should run all over the Colts, who actually stopped an injured Maurice Jones-Drew last week.
Chris Johnson – With Kerry Collins back under center, Chris Johnson has rebounded from his two-game slump to run for 241 yards and two touchdowns in the past two games. Next up is Kansas City and Johnson should continue to roll.
Rashard Mendenhall – Rashard Mendenhall plays tonight but you should feel safe plugging him into your starting lineup against the horrible Carolina Panthers. Mendenhall only needs to run for 166 yards this season to move into the Top 5 for the Steelers’ season best. He might get that tonight against this defense.
Ray Rice – Ray Rice broke out last week and helped push me into my league’s fantasy football championship game. This week he faces the Cleveland Brown, who let him run for 80 yards against them in Week 3. The problem here is that Rice only has four touchdowns on the year. He should be fine this weekend though.
Michael Turner – Week 15 saw Michael Turner get held out of the end zone for the first time in six weeks. He was also held to under 100 yards, despite getting 25 carries. He gets the Saints in Week 16 and the Falcons need a win here to clinch their division title. Expect them to rely on Turner to keep the Saints offense off the field.
Jamaal Charles – Jamaal Charles hasn’t been talked about much with his time share with Thomas Jones but he has run for over 1,300 yards on the season. He ran for 126 yards and one touchdown last week against St. Louis and gets a Tennessee defense that has fallen on hard times this season. Expect another big game from Charles.
Steven Jackson – Last year I made it to the championship and ended up with Steven Jackson in my starting lineup, only to have him held out at the last minute due to injury. This season Jackson is healthy but has only broke the 100-yard mark four times this season and only once in the last seven games. But you can’t bench him against San Francisco.
LeSean McCoy – LeSean McCoy is a must-start, especially in PPR leagues this season. He had an off-game against the New York Giants in Week 15 but should rebound nicely against a Minnesota defensive line that has given up a lot of yards on the ground the past few weeks.
