Coastal low pressure, off the Atlantic coast near Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, will continue its slow and steady march to the northeast today. The forecast track of the low pressure area will keep clouds, associated with the northwestern edge of the system, over the region today despite high pressure attempting to ridge in from the southwest. Though the sun may put in an appearance at times, temperatures will likely be held back once again today thanks to the abundant cloud cover.
A parade of fast moving weather systems will impact the region to close out the shortened work week. The first system will approach the area Wednesday morning, and sweep through quickly during the day bringing the threat for some showers. A brief lull, in between systems, is forecast for Thursday as high pressure provides transitory relief. Late Thursday evening and into Friday morning, a more potent, yet equally as speedy, cold front looks to move through the area, clearing the region by Friday afternoon.
Canadian high pressure looks to have sustained control over our region by the start of the weekend, providing some cooler and drier conditions. Temperatures look to rally toward above normal by the end of the weekend. There are indications that the upper air pattern may begin to stagnate by the start of next week. This could mean a return to warmer, yet more unsettled, conditions by that time.
