Tarallucci e Vino is a classy yet friendly Italian outpost just north of Union Square. It has an inviting dining room and a wide-ranging menu, which covers meat and fish and pasta but also cheese and charcuterie. But what’s the best part of any Italian restaurant? That’s right, the desserts.
Tarallucci e Vino offers an embarrassment of riches in the dessert department. You’re spoiled by choice—and the choices are creative. Sure, there’s the classic tiramisu, but why get that when you could have hazelnut crème brulee with coffee granita and Bailey’s gelato? Or white chocolate mousse, mango, citrus sorbet, and saffron gelato? Or maybe even a warm caramel soufflé with pear crudo and prosecco sorbet?
But if you want an old standby, especially if you’ve just had a big Italian dinner, go straight for the gelato sampler. It’s a bit pricey at $10, but the treat is high quality, the flavors rich, and the portion decent. The flavor options change regularly, but you’re also welcome to choose from the gelatos and sorbets on the menu (which include prosecco, saffron, and red berry sorbet and Bailey’s gelato). If coconut gelato is one of the choices offered, make sure it’s one of your three scoops. And save room for the extra dollop of whipped cream and classic Italian rolled wafer that round out the bowl—they provide extra taste and texture. Certainly a satisfying bowl of ice cream that will make sure you leave happy.
