Although the talks ofeducation is often in the for front of many debates, school discussions and general conversation, little is done to show the numbers as to why education is so important. During a time when Florida is going through its worst economic decline sense the great depression, children as well as adults need to put forth the effort to better their chances at gaining employment and retaining employment through education.
Jobs in Flrorida are decreasing and competition for positions is much more stiff now than in the past. With Miami-Dade County producing a High School graduation rate that levels off around 50 percent, there are many students who do not have the proper education to obtain sufficient employment. This is leaving many positions to be taken by better educated applicants, many of whom are coming from outsideo f Miami-dade and the state of Florida.
Florida’s current unemployment rate is at 11.9 percent. In Miami-dade County the unemployment rates is highter than the state average at 13.1 percent and Broward counties unemployment is slightly below the average at 10.1 percent. With these percentages increasing it is safe to say that if one plans to gain or keep employment in Florida knowledge beyond just your work experience will be key.
The Obama Administration has taken notice to the importance of education and has generated several plans to get single mothers, low income families, and the unemployed back in school. Not only will going back to school increase your job chances it will also make for a stronger economy.
This push for eduaction is crucial for the future of the people living in Miami-dade County. This push starts with the children of Miami-Dade Public Schools who are only graduating 50 percent of the student body. Getting more student to complete high school will work towards increasing the amount of student that go on to further their education and create the competiton to compete for these select jobs that the state of Florida have to offer. It is predicted that this job shortage and recession will continue in Florida through the year 2015.
Following in the concerns of the Obama Administration it is time for the people of Florida to create more opportunities for their future through education.
