If you love fishing and kids, you will love Olive the little woolly bugger. Kirk Werner authored and illustrated the three book series (to-date) of children’s books about Olive. They are titled, Olive the little woolly bugger, Olive and the big stream, and Olive goes for a wild ride.
In these colorfully illustrated books, Kirk is introducing children to the sport of fishing with hope that they will also become future stewards of natural resources like fish, clean water and the environment. These fresh, fun and interesting books are a natural way to teach children about reading, books, storytelling and nature with the added benefit of introducing them to the sport of fishing.
About the books:
In the first book, Olive the Little Woolly Bugger, Olive is just like the child who has never fished before. She goes off to Camp Tightloops to learn what it takes to become a fishing fly. While there, she learns some life lessons that go well beyond fly fishing.
After Olive has been taught the basics of fly fishing in the first book, she gets her first chance to apply what she has learned and try out her knowledge in Olive and The Big Stream. In this second book, not every fly catches a fish, just as not every child will catch a fish on their first outing. However, everyone witnesses the excitement that accompanies the action when a trout is finally caught, and released!
In the third book, Olive Goes for a Wild Ride and of course brings her readers along. She overcomes more obstacles while benefitting with more lessons and education about stream habitat, insect life and all that makes the great outdoors so great!
You and your children will read the adventures of Olive and imagine yourselves along for every step of the journey.
In Kirk’s words, “Your child will be hooked on fishing with the help of Olive the woolly bugger, and if you’re an angler, these are books you’ll actually look forward to reading with your children.”
Kirks note: While the books will appeal to kids of all ages, the reading level is suitable for ages 8 and up. For younger readers, it is recommended that parents read along with them!
These books will make wonderful Christmas and birthday gifts for children.
