Just past the intersection of 13th and Willamette, tucked back in the corner of the strip mall where Star Gate Audio/Video is located, there is Willamette Hairstylists. They have been open for 19+ years now, at the same location, and run this entire time by Cathy West. Whether you like to call them: barber shops, hair salons, hair-do shacks, etc. This place is like no other hair styling business in Eugene.
Though it is tucked back, secluded, from easy view of driving down Willamette St., you can always see the massive wooden scissors that are sitting on the wall, open, and giving away exactly where this hair salon is. With their yellow handles, big silver legs, and overall size of these giant scissors, they point out the door that dawns: Willamette Hairstylists, in white, wooden, calligraphic fashion. All of these obvious details telling one, “Yes this is where I should go for a great hair cut.”
Moving inside, one discovers the waiting room containing: cozy couches and chairs, a cold and hot water dispenser with cups, a selection of different teas, and even red licorice for the sweet tooth. There is also many stands conataining all kinds of fashion magazines for one to select and read while waiting. Who knows, you may even find a new hairstyle in these that you are going to be bold about and try.
Past the waiting room is Cathy’s station, and the main floor of the hair salon. The walls are dawned with a collage of different pieces of art, and wall paper (all made by Cathy herself), the floor is always clean, and the plants are always green. Moving further back along the right hand side, there are three rooms, one a storage room, and the other two are station rooms. Looking straight back you will see the very clean and neat bathroom as well.
Now that there has been a little visual map of the place instilled in your head, including aesthetics, one can visualize the overall attitude of the women that work, and run the salon. They are all very fun, open, outgoing ladies that love to listen, and can have great conversation with. There is no receptionist, but one can always count on Cathy being at her station cutting hair, or working on something, to greet you with a cheery hello. Depending on the day she will take care of your situation with much diligence. If she’s busy, but another lady isn’t, she can get them to cut your hair, and well if they’re all busy then one will have to com back at a scheduled time. However, it has been with much experience that she will be doing someone else’s hair, welcome you, and then have you take a seat and wait until she is done with her current client. No matter what this place is like, they will always take of you in a friendly and professional manner.
Oh, almost forgot to mention the fact that they are extremely AFFORDABLE!
