When some of the books in the review pile look pretty boring, it’s really a great surprise when you just sit down to start the book and all of a sudden you are halfway through it in no time at all.
That’s how it was with Hearts Awakening by Delia Parr. This story is about Ellie. She hasn’t had the easiest life, with hopes for a marriage and family of her own having passed on long ago. Ellie moved to Dillon’s island: not by choice, but she needed work and widower Jackson Smith needed a housekeeper to care for his boys. It was a rocky road indeed. Jackson is hurt and mourning the loss of his wife and his marriage, which are surrounded by scandal. He suffers from anger and grief and sometimes finds himself taking it out on others. Ellie is very plain, but eventually Jackson realizes she is a help and not a hindrance and offers her something no one expects. What is it? Well you’ll just have to read to find out!
This book is a really quick read and so good. Full of heart-breaking emotion and intense desperation, you are touched by Ellie’s heart reaching out like a child to her Father above. Delia Parr is an amazing author. It will be great to read some more from Delia.
Don’t hesitate to check out Hearts Awakening at the bookstore or at the local library.
