Holiday chocolate chip cookies: A modern spin on Santa’s favorite treat

Ice cold milk and a plate of warm chocolate chip cookies make a season bright, right? This holiday season you’ll need shades thanks to the dazzlingly versions of a classic at Ruby et Violette.

Ruby et Violette, is worth the walk toward 10th avenue in Midtown West. Baked fresh each morning from their kitchen in Queens, this shoebox sized café offers homemade ice cream, brownies, and a colorful array of chocolate chip cookies. Sound ordinary? The varietals offered make these chocolate chip cookies quit the opposite.

Like a kid in a candy shop, the display offers a rainbow of flavors from the pink hued “Rose” flavor made with candied rose petal to the bright green “Crème de Menthe”, each of the flavors being mindful to include white, dark or milk chocolate chunks.

Here’s a review of some of the most popular flavors at Ruby et Violette-just in time for Santa:

  • Gingerbread: Expecting a zing of ginger? Don’t. As a chocolate chip cookie, it’s practically perfect- soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside and an ideal chocolate to cookie ratio. The ginger made itself known only as an afterthought. If you are looking for a chocolate chip cookie with a bit of spice it’s perfect, but if you are looking for a little zip in your holiday cookie step this cookie will fall short.
  • Crème de Menthe: Like a cold breeze in the Swiss Alps, this cookie packs a minty fresh bite. Complimented with dark chocolate chunks, it’s reminiscent of after dinner mints. Refreshing and sweet for a holiday dessert table.
  • Sweet Potato: This cookie will take you right back to Thanksgiving. Made with sweet potato fries, marshmallow, white chocolate chunks and pecans this cookies is more of a meal. Each bite is chewy and interesting. It can be on the sweet side with a hint of coconut mixed within the complex flavors.
  • The Breakup…Her Story: A holiday must have! A chewy smorgasbord of peanut butter, caramel, oatmeal, white chocolate chunks and maple syrup. This cookie is a hearty bite with a delightfully sweet center that’s perfect for the holidays.

These cookies are a bit pricey ($2 each) for a once a day indulgence, but as gifts they are a sweet sentiment for this season. Packaged in luxurious boxes with satin ribbon gift-givers may select from an array of price points and quantities. Gifts range from the Le Trianon (selection of 4 cookies for $17.95) to a more substantial Giverny (selection of 1 dozen cookies for $44.50).

Give Santa something new this year; visit Ruby et Violette online or at the café: 457 West 50thStreet, NYC 10019.
