With Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner, pending on your childrens age, shopping and decorating will be interesting.
To make things easier for Thanksgiving shopping at the grocery store I really recommend do it all early in the month, that way you have everything you need already on hand. To make things go smoother at the store give the older kids part of the shopping list and give them a time limit to get everything on their part of the list and come back. Kind of like that game on tv were the shoppers get a list and a time limit and the closer one gets free money. Give a prize to the first one back but make sure to set “game” rules like no shoving the other shoppers and things like that. Doing this will also make it so your not hearing, “Mom, I’m hungry!” “Mom, can you buy me this?” or “Mom, he’s touching me!” We all know how irritating it can get with bored children at the store, so make it fun and you might make it out without a headache.
With all the hustle and bustle with the cooking and family arriving for Thanksgiving, it might be a blessing in disguise for all you adults that want to participate in ‘Black Friday’. Black friday is one of the craziest days of the year and yes that includes the day after Christmas with all the after holiday sales. If you have family in town you can prearrange to leave the children at home asleep with one of them in exchange for taking their list and money with you and adding it to yours. You should only do this is you agree that it is a fair exchange for them to watch sleeping little ones while you are out at the ridiculous hour in the morning that your favorite store opens to try and wiggle your way through the mass of people after the same things you are. Last year I believe I was a little smarter and went with mulitiple family members and we all stood in line for each other.
Black friday in my opinion is a both a great idea and a bad one. Yes, there are some serious sale prices but you have to get up at a crazy hour in the morning just to get a semi close spot in line with many lines starting at midnight. You can hit up mulitple stores in the course of a morning if you time it right. The sale prices don’t last even all day, just while the products last or until noon at many places. The biggest draw back of black friday is that the store never order enough product for everyone. I seriously believe that they get a too big a laugh out of the shortage. And the income from black friday alone sets the yearly income for the stores a lot higher then if they don’t have the mad holiday sales.
