International songstress Loreta spoke by phone to Examiner’s Jennifer Waite in late October to discuss her latest exciting ventures. Loreta Frankonyte was born in Lithuania to very musical parents, raised all over Europe while performing for huge crowds and singing alongside famous performers. She is now living in LA to pursue her dreams.
Right now, Loreta’s dreams include releasing her first full-length album, which she is currently working on. “I think the album will be ready for release in 2011, but my single ‘No Mercy’ will be out this year as a remix.” Loreta was in the studio mixing “No Mercy” and “Happily Never After” in the days before this interview. Though Loreta has some tracks available now on ReverbNation.com, she says those are merely demo versions and “all the songs will sound completely different.”
Loreta told TCHE she moved to Los Angeles about three years ago, and is very comfortable there. “I’m very happy. Los Angeles is the city where I feel like myself. I can be totally accepted being the way that I am, so I love living here.”
Loreta: ‘Stranger In Moscow’ Cover A Tribute To Michael Jackson
The young artist has had music in her blood since birth, and quickly proved herself to be an immense talent. Loreta is currently promoting her cover of Michael Jackson’s “Stranger in Moscow” and working with LA-based music producer Brendan Hawkins on an upcoming single. Hawkins has worked in the music industry for years, and mixed tracks with Perry Farrell and Jane’s Addiction in the early 2000’s.
On her MJ cover, Loreta explained the song was her tribute to the late king of pop, but she generally prefers writing her own music. “I’m not really a fan of covers. This was really a tribute to Michael [Jackson], because I just love Michael. He has inspired me for so long, so it was a ‘thank you’ to him for that.”
When asked why she specifically chose “Stranger in Moscow”, Loreta told TCHE the song felt “very real” to her. She said she related to the song because of the many difficulties she faced growing up as a child star in her home country. “I had a lot of enemies at school because they just hated the fact that I was [well-known] and always traveling.”
Loreta continued, “I was bullied, but too scared to tell anyone abut it. When I heard this song [“Strangers In Moscow”], everything just came back to me, but it was also like therapy. It felt like, ‘I’m not the only one feeling this way.’ The loneliness, being misunderstood…so it stuck with me for a long time.”

Blessed with a powerful voice and status as a accomplished pianist, Loreta isn’t just musically gifted. She also speaks several languages, considers herself a savvy business woman and loves art and photography. Loreta told TCHE she speaks Lithuanian, Russian, Spanish and English fluently, which is especially remarkable when combined with her myriad other talents.
Loreta’s cover of MJ’s ‘Stranger in Moscow’ has already received nearly 30,000 downloads as a ringtone and just as many for the full track on ReverbNation.com. Loreta’s ‘Stranger in Moscow’ track was recently featured on the site, which currently has her listed as a Top 10 Pop artist in the Los Angeles area, and on the Top 40 list of Pop artists on the entire site.
