Mike Manos is professor of Economics and a scholar of History and archaeology. He is also a poet and a freelance writer.
God’s Poor is his first novel.
Thank you for this interview, Mike. Can you tell us a little about yourself and how long you’ve been writing?
I am a professor of Economics and a scholar of History and Archaeology. My passion is archaeology, and I inherited it from my father. I am married with Vicky, an actor and singer, and I have two children.
Can you tell us briefly what your book is about?
My book, God’s Poor, is a fiction novel. It starts with the sudden deaths of pregnant women, which cause world panic. Then a dangerous heresy reappears from the misty past. Catholic and Orthodox Christian Churches face an unknown enemy. The quest for immortality leads to the first Jerusalem and incredible revelations. Finally an earthquake produced by HAARP gives a temporary solution.
Who is your intended audience? Have you been able to crossover into other audiences as well?
Since my book is a general contemporary fiction, my intended audience is all the people who read in general, and need reading as ‘’food for thought’’. In that sense I found out that my audience has considerably expanded.
Why did you choose your particular genre?
It is genre that matches my expertise, and writing a book is a serious task. In fact I needed four years to complete the book.
Do you ever experience self-doubts with your work?
Always. At the end I trust the opinion of my colleagues.
Where do you write? Do you have a favorite place?
My sanctuary and office is the basement of my house. There resides a big desk and the scattered all around the place books and notes.
What kind of research did you have to do during the writing process?
A lot and difficult scientific research. A book about an old heresy dated back to the first centuries of Christianity needs detailed and painful research.
Who is your publisher and how did you get accepted by them? Did you pitch your book yourself or go through an agent?
I don’t have an agent and my publisher is Infinity Publishing. I travel a lot and I had no time to spend with publishers and agents. Infinity suited my needs.
How are you promoting your book thus far?
Through friends and colleagues and the expertise of Mrs. Camarena of “Pump Up Your Book”.
If you could give one book promotion tip to new authors, what would that be?
Use an expert in order to aid you in your task.
What’s next for you?
A book about a terrorist group in the USA.
Thank you for this interview, Mike. Can you tell us where we can find you on the web?
My book is at the book sites of Amazon, E-Bay, and Infinity Publishing. Thank you very much.
You can pick up your copy of God’s Poor at Amazon or order directly through any of your local Virginia Beach bookstores.
