So happy to be your special-education examiner on foamcage.com. I hope you will frequent my column, ask questions, and gain incites. I have been told by many families throughout the years that I am a storehouse of knowledge regarding education and they were blessed to have me on their child’s team. I am blatantly honest and develop sincere, close relationships as I gently coach individuals “to be the best they can be”. I have always regarded every student a privilege to work with and treated them as my own. As a highlight of foamcage.com, I hope to develop those same kinds of relationships with you, my readers, but will be able to touch more individuals. There are so many interesting topics to explore about learning, especially when learning is both a challenge and a gift! After 3 decades in education, my experience has revealed some simple truths: everyone can learn and everyone has a different natural talent, ready to be nurtured! Tailoring a program to meet individual needs, where individual successes and one’s inner passion becomes the highlight of learning, is the key. The weaknesses and individual challenges need to be clearly understood, but put into perspective. Using tools that require a multi-sensory or 3-dimensional way to take-in information and remember, enhance cognitive development and make learning fun! A strong advocate, needed, when the going gets tough, can be the deciding factor between H.S. dropout or Law School! I so get it, because, besides being an advocate for my students, I have been an advocate for my own dyslexic/ADD children.
I’d like to open up some interesting discussions by listening to your frustrations. Let me know what you are experiencing regarding your child’s education, or even your own learning- style! I am here to help.
