Jacksonville beer lovers rejoice! On Saturday November 20, a new craft brewery/restaurant called Intuition Ale Works will officially open its doors for business at 720 King Street. The grand opening will include numerous draft/cask ales, live music, and wood-fired pizzas from Pele’s Fire Catering. Owner and brewmaster Ben Davis will also be conducting tours of the facility from 1pm-5pm. Patrons will also have the opportunity to sign up for the “Intuition Ale Works Mug Club”–a $65 yearly membership which will include beer and merchandise discounts, special access to limited release brews, invitations to Mug Club events, and a bag of Intuition Ale works merchandise.
For those itching to try a taste of what’s to come, owner and brewmaster Ben Davis has just released his first ale entitled “People’s Pale Ale.” The beer is described as “A left-coast style pale ale for hard working people.” People’s Pale Ale is now available at the following local restaurants: Burrito Gallery, Dos Gatos, Engine 15, European Street Riverside, Kickbacks Gastropub, Lomax Lodge, Mellow Mushroom (Fleming Island, Jacksonville Beach, and Southside Blvd. locations), Moon River Pizza, O’Brothers Irish Pub, Restaurant Orsay, and ‘town.
To promote the new brew, Ben will be traveling to some local Jackaonville restaurants this week. These events are intended to not only introduce the beer to the Jacksonville area but also generate feedback on the taste and characteristics of the new ale. On Wednesday, November 3rd, Ben will make an appearance in conjunction with the Art Walk at Burrito Gallery. Then on November 4th Ben and some of his staff will host a “meet the brewer” function at the Southside Mellow Mushroom location from 8pm-9:30pm. The final stop will be at the First Friday Bar Crawl in Five Points. The crawl will involve multiple stops, the first of which is Hawthorn Salon. The rest of the schedule for the pub crawl should be posted on the Intuition Blog or their Facebook Page.
The road to opening Intuition Ale was not an easy one. The owners of the new brewery considered multiple locations before finding the ideal spot on King Street. For instance, they considered a spot across from Bold City Brewery on Rosselle street but complications arose. Now, they have finally settled on the King Street location in what they consider the new “Riverside Brewing District.” The Intuition Ale building takes up a huge 12,000 square feet space, which will provide room for growth, as well as events. The brewery plans to offer 12 beers on tap, including selections from other local breweries.
As of November 1st, there were still spots open for brewery tours and samplings on November 6th and 13th. These tours will take place at 1pm and 3pm and need to be reserved. To make reservations, contact Diana at [email protected] Cost is $5 cash only, which includes beer tasting and a souvenir pint glass.
Intuition Ale is currently hiring staff for their tap room. Here is a link to the Craigslist ad for the job. Applications are due by November 8th. They are looking for beer loving individuals to serve in the tap room and also act as ambassadors for the brand.
Jacksonville Fine Dining Examiner plans to visit the brewery very soon and will of course report back. We’re very excited about this new brewery. The Riverside area is definitely growing and it’s great to see new businesses opening in Jacksonville!
