Jennifer Hudson may be part of the American Idol franchise, but when it comes to loving her home town, Chicago is where to find her. Yesterday at the Navy Pier only blocks from downtown Chicago, Hudson was in full holiday cheer. Organizing one of Chicago’s biggest toy drives ever, hundreds of kids got in line a toy for Christmas.
In a special tribute to her nephew, Julian King, who was murdered, Jennifer Hudson took to helping those less fortunate during the holiday season and get them a gift. In particular the drive was about the children and getting each and every child a quality gift to take home and enjoy during the holidays.
Before Navy Pier, Hudson had taken to the streets to collect hundreds of toys. Standing out in the freezing weather helping at drop offs, getting on live television and asking for help and even singing to motivate the masses. Yesterday, it all paid off.
“That’s what makes me happy during the holiday season. Just to see somebody smile, or to hear them clap or just excited. That makes me happy.” Says Jennifer Hudson.
Passing out gifts, with her sister Julia Hudson at her side, Jennifer Hudson probably did the most selfless thing one could do for the holiday season by giving to others. The event was so successful that they ran out of toys before they ran out of kids to give them too. Not to worry though, there were reports of more toys at another location to be given out to cover the kids.
Talk about someone having a Happy Holidays!
