The Karl Strauss Brewing Company has six Brewery Restaurant locations in Southern California, and it is impossible to pick a favorite. Every venue has its highlights, and today we examine the Carlsbad property, adjacent to Legoland, off Palomar Airport Road.
The San Diego Bars Examiner wants to make his position clear on the importance of family and togetherness, but for those who have had their fill of DUPLO blocks and Dino Island, and can make it across the Legoland parking lot quickly, Karl Strauss Carlsbad is an excellent spot for a quick getaway.
Massive bar, ample seating, a patio, and simply acres of no one blasting you with a water cannon. Karl Strauss Carlsbad is a Brewery at heart, but understands its proximity to Legoland, and is family friendly. Full breakfast, lunch and dinner menus are available, including kid-friendly fare.
Whether you are a parent looking for sanctuary from “Fun Town,” an area business person who has put in a hard day’s work, or a member of the 24-hour Fitness across the street who knows the twenty minutes you just spent in the gym justifies a pint or two, Karl Strauss Carlsbad has what you need; notably, Happy Hour.
Happy Hour, Monday – Friday, 4-6:30pm
$3.50 Beers: Featuring the “Always Brewing” selection, plus Special and Seasonal releases. Pitcher Specials $12.95
$3.95 House Wines and Well Drinks; though when you have a choice between a three-dollar and fifty cent truly excellent handcrafted beer and a 3.95 ordinary vodka, the choice is obvious.
NOTE: Karl Strauss bartenders use Grand Marnier in their Margaritas. Testament to the staff’s ability, though it is doubtful you can get one of these for $3.95; stick to beer.
2ND NOTE: Flan-Diddy Anders Red was featured at the San Diego Beer Week Brewers Guild Fest, and I do believe I tried one. Am drinking one now, and I have no recollection of this wholly interesting brew. Perhaps I tried more than one.
Tower 10 IPA and the Cotija Turkey Avocado Burger Amazing flavor-bomb of a burger, and Tower 10 pairs with anything. Get both and love them.
Black Garlic Fondue Clearly you are not anticipating something like this at a brewery. When it occurs to you this is essentially cheese, go ahead and get it, then go ahead and be impressed. (Cambozola cheese, herbed Red Trolley cream sauce, cloves and black garlic, roasted peppers and grilled herb bread) 10.95
Happy Hour starts early on Sunday, 10am-6pm. That’s eight hours. Think of all the fun your kids can have at Legoland in eight hours. Just be sure to bring that neighbor/babysitter who is conveniently between the legal driving and legal drinking age to get everyone home safely.
