Is there a doctor in the House? This week in San Francisco, our representatives are returning for Thanksgiving break and what do they have to be thankful for? They have a family and an extended family, fellow church members, and voters alike, who welcome them with incredible support. But the lame-duck lawmakers are scrooging their faithful replacements.
“The description of ‘lame duck’ is often applied to politicians who are known to be in their final term of office, when colleagues and electors look toward a successor. It is also sometimes used to describe office-holders who have lost an election but have not yet left office.” Says the Phrase Finder.
It should be that for duck hunting season, with the licenses, should be issued one lame duck stamp per hunter. Or, we might just start passing out ear muffs and turn off our politically exagerated cable news channels. Because we know that nothing will work out in congress during this brief two months of phasing out the old, and phasing in the new.
Glen Beck said, “Senator Jay Rockefeller is telling the FCC to fix (castrate?) the FOX and MSNBC channels, because they don’t have faith in their government.”
The media is so polarized since there might be a good reason for it. Do you think? Why would a senator even think that a bureaucratic agency might risk violating the First Amendment rights of a news channel? Usually the audience is left to decide what they like to hear and go with it. Or is it because the FCC has no watchdog to yell fowl.
“GOP senators face(d) a tough vote Tuesday on whether to ban earmarks, a policy House Republicans already have in place and are expected to keep in the new Congress. The idea of prohibiting members from designating funding for specific projects in their states or districts is popular with reform-minded deficit hawks but opposed by congressional veterans trying to steer funds to constituencies back home.” Said North Carolina Rep. Heath Shuler, a more conservative Democrat, reported by CNN Politics. (see also earmarks.omb.gov)
About the bottom line, the former speaker Newt Gingrich said,
“The bottom line is that ObamaCare is so destructive that even Democrats in Congress are trying to repeal parts of it while the Obama White House is granting exemptions left and right to shield its political allies from suffering what it promised all of us would never have to suffer: rate hikes and lost coverage.”
There is no doubt in this examiner’s mind that nothing can be said, nothing can be done, nothing can be even planned for during this session of lame duck congress. Thanks to the holidays anyway, we might back off congress a little. Think more about family matters, and extended family matters. Where the God of all creation is reigning over our hearts and minds. “God bless you, everyone!”
