Getting a good night’s sleep is one of the most inexpensive gifts you can give your body and mind. Not only does a good rest make you feel good, you will look better too. When you are tired, others will often notice your weary expression and dark circles under your eyes. Therefore, getting plenty of restful sleep should be on top of your beauty to-do list.
In our fast paced technological world, sleep problems are becoming all too common. Contributing factors include tension and stress, noise pollution and homes that are more brightly lit than ever before (by electric lights, televisions and computer screens). With the population becoming more and more concentrated in the urban areas it is becoming more difficult to get a good’s night sleep.
While there is little you can do about the outside disturbances (noisy neighbors, cars revving at a nearby intersection, the sounds of sirens), you still have plenty of options for what goes on inside your home. You may have already tried the obvious options: taking the t.v. out of the bedroom, hanging heavy drapes to block out bright lights, a c.d. of restful nature sounds playing softly. These are all important steps but you may not have tried an Aromatherapy remedy using Lavendar or Chamomile essential oils.
Since ancient times, the scents of Lavendar and Chamomile plants have been used to promote a calm and tranquil atmosphere in the home. Both are said to possess sedative qualities. Traditionally, Lavendar was sewed in tiny sachets to be placed in bed at night to aid in relaxation and restful sleep. You may recall that Chamomile tea is often recommended as a drink of choice before retiring in the evening.
