Black Friday is literally around the corner and with all the technology deals busting out at every seem of the technological world whether it be huge 42” plasma TV’s or the run of the mill 2GB SanDisk memory stick you can throw a stone in the air and hit a great technological deal. But the real question for a lot of people is…Laptop or Tablet.
This is where I step in. Seeing as I am your Philadelphia Gadget and Tech expert and with a shout out to Fox29 for showing me some love and reading my articles I figured I would give my thoughts on the holiday beat down spectacular that is Laptops vs. Tablets. With the word tablets I am going to go ahead and assume that people are calling the iPad and Blackberry Playbook and similar pieces of technology tablets. So let’s begin and remember this won’t be a one and done quick type thing we are going to go in depth and make sure you feel confident with your future purchase.
To fully break down the better technology we will scientifically break down a few key categories that every tech guy thinks about but instead of catering to them I am going to cater these articles to the common person who picks out things just because they look “shiny or cute” and hopefully bring them to the conclusion that they purchased the correct equipment.
The first category will be PORTABILITY. With this one I am going to look at the differences between the two technologies and figure out the best one that is easily portable and easy for you to handle.
Laptops – This portable computer has been around for quite some time and the accessories show that. No matter what size of laptop you have they have a briefcase or attaché case for you to put your laptop and all its accessories into and allow you to carry it with you with little to no extra weight. Only downside is unpacking and repacking.
On the Kyle Scientific Scale-o-Rama the Laptop gets an 8 out of 10. You can’t beat the feel of a good handy accessory to keep your hands free.
Tablets – This semi new technological breakthrough is slowly making its way into the mainstream consciousness. With the iPad making a splash and now the Galaxy Tab and the Blackberry Playbook, accessories to carry your new equipment is slowly making the rounds. The upside to these Tablets is that they bring with them a new way to carry it around. Mostly the ones I have seen all make the Tablet to be like a book or a fancy notebook carrier cased in leather. The only downside is that a lot of time you have to keep your hand on it and takes away your chance of using both hands to carry extra items. It also gives you the unfortunate opportunity of forgetting it somewhere when you have to put it down to pick something up. While that can happen with your laptop it isn’t as often an occurrence as this might be in the future.
On the Kyle Scientific Scale-o-Rama the Tablets get a 5 out of 10. Just to early to tell what other accessories will be available I can only comment on the ones available now.
Like I said this is only the first of many articles talking about this issue. Feel free to comment and leave suggestions or if you feel I might be wrong let me know. Email, Facebook or Twitter. Feel free to read some of the other Examiner articles and most of all I will see you on the other side.
