6:37 p.m.: Halftime at the Poinsettia Bowl, San Diego State leads 21-14 over Navy. This is going to be a good one.
Some notes: Navy’s Dobbs has 81 yards rushing. He just needs 59 to reach 1,000 for the season.
Ryan Lindley is picking the Navy defense apart. He’s 11-for-14 for 184 yards and a touchdown. Most of those passes have been to Vincent Brown, who has seven catches and 152 yards.
6:49 p.m.: Navy is set to receive to start the second half.
6:55 p.m.: The Navy student section is tossing a cardboard box around. Navy has the ball, 2nd and goal from the nine.
6:58 p.m.: Navy goes for it on 4th and goal from the 3-yard line. Dobbs pass attempt to Bo Snelson falls incomplete in the end zone. Snelson found separation from his defender and had the ball at his finger tips of his outstretched arms, but couldn’t bring it in.
If San Diego State can drive the field and score here, it’ll make things difficult for the Mids.
It’s still SDSU 21, Navy 14 9:32 left in the third quarter.
7:05 p.m.: Lindley goes deep for Brown, but Brown can’t make the catch at the one. Drive stalls at midfield. Navy ball.
7:10 p.m.: San Diego State’s Demerius Barksdale walks into the end zone in an apparent fumble recovery, but Teich is ruled down. Hoke is challenging the play.
In other news, Hillman has broken the Poinsettia Bowl record for rushing yards in a game. The freshman has 158 yards rushing.
7:22 p.m.: We’re at the end of the third quarter. No scoring in the quarter, but lots of big plays. DeMarco Sampson has his first two catches of the game, with receptions of 15 and 30 yards.
Still SDSU 21, Navy 14 end of the third.
7:26 p.m.: I don’t know who is having a more impressive game, Ryan Lindley or Ronnie Hillman? They hook up for a 15-yard touchdown pass after a great play fake to Brandon Sullivan on 3rd-and-1.
Lindley is 16-for-21 for 231 yards and two TDs. Hillman has three touchdowns. Wow.
SDSU 28, Navy 14 14:56 left in the fourth.
7:33 p.m.: Not looking good for Navy. The Mids punt after four plays. 12:53 left in the game.
7:36 p.m.: Tonight’s attendance is 48,049 a new record. But what happened to the 51,000 tickets sold before the game?
7:44 p.m.: This game is over. Hillman walks in for a one-yard touchdown run. That’s his third rushing touchdown of the game. He has four touchdowns in the game. Hillman’s three TD runs ties a Poinsettia Bowl record.
The Aztecs go on a 13-play, 80-yard drive that eats 6:46 off the clock.
I’m done with updates because I’m heading down to the field now. Look for my recap after the game.
SDSU 35, Navy 14 6:07 left in the game.
