Whether you are thirteen or thirty, it seems that it is so common to make mistakes when it comes to makeup. Whether it is the technique or the color choices, women often make rookie mistakes regarding their makeup. It happens when we are rushing out the door, when we run out of products, and when one is simply not thinking. No matter what the reason, there are many ways to avoid making these mistakes.
Below are the two most common makeup mistakes women face and how to avoid them altogether:
Finding the right foundation. Have you ever heard that your face is like a blank canvas and that when you put on makeup you are creating a work of art? Well that work of art starts off with great foundation. Foundation is a wonderful way to cover up any flaws, and it evens out your skin tone at the same time.
If you are worried about your foundation sinking in to your fine lines and wrinkles, be sure to start off with the appropriate skin care regimen. Always use a face wash, toner, and moisturizer appropriate to your skin type. Don’t know what your skin type is? Go to a cosmetics counter at your local department store and find out there. Beauty advisors at department stores are highly trained and can suggest the appropriate products for your skin type. Using the appropriate skin care items for your face will make your foundation go on more smoothly, and will plump up your fine lines and wrinkles so that your foundation doesn’t absorb too heavily into the skin.
Applied too much foundation? No worries! Simply take a little bit of makeup remover to the too thick area and apply a very thin layer of foundation. You never want to mask foundation by adding on a powder. This only enhances the look of the foundation, and often times makes it look worse.
Less is always more. Packing on tons of makeup to hide a blemish or an age spot can sometimes make it look more noticeable. Whenever you apply your foundation make sure you apply it with a foundation brush (it is less absorbing than a sponge, meaning you will use less therefore saving you money), and apply in light layers. That way if you need a little bit more coverage in one area you can just add on another light layer where needed. Whereas too heavy foundation makes for an overall bad appearance, heavy eye liners, eye shadows, blush, and dark lipsticks can make you look harsh and overdone. More often than not, women tend to be drawn to shades simply because it is new. Don’t make this mistake! Invest in the time that it takes to find the perfect shades for your skin tone. It will only make you look like the flawless beauty that you deserve to be!
