I recently made the decision to go Vegan and have been blogging about it at my own website http://unabashedleft.blogspot.com. Upset by the deaths of cats and dogs and their displacement due to the BP oil spill I came online this year to raise money for the http://la-spca.org which was and continues to do massive good for the Gulf region. I have been sick this year and my writing project took on new meaning and wider subject matter as my own disability became longer-term and the necessity to make a living sitting down became an interest. Along with my own long-term fascination with public policy and fondness for the First Amendment. So my project will progress as my health matters do.
My primary care provider is Edward Rippell of Hamden, an M.D. who impressed me when he chose not to treat an unrelated medical matter recently. I find this to be a rarity given the financial incentives for providers to test and treat given the current and the then-current laws. He will be providing much nutritional advice and support. Surani Fernando, M.D. of Endocrine Associates of New Haven is also supportive, opted not to do unecessary testing early on and her & her colleagues office is friendly galore!
http://Walgreens.com is a good resource and my pharmacy manager at the Walgreen’s on South Colony Road in Wallingford is Terri Sue Bukowski. She is expert as a pharmacist, caring, concerned, compassionate, responsive to her patients, eager to help, willing to consider complaints offered constructively and more. She and her staff have listened to me, and have provided much useful information on over-the-counters to buy given the perameters laid down by my M.D.’s. The store staff are also very nice, friendly and fun at this Walgreen’s branch. Edge of the Woods healthfood store in New Haven and their http://edgenewhaven.blogspot.com website are also awesome Vegan resources.
Online I want to mention two supporters. First is Ashley Mayer, M.D. whose inspiration has been immeasurable. She’s just recently commenced her own blog about her efforts to get healthier, http://askdoctorashley.wordpress.com/doctor/ashley/ . I anticipate hearing from her this weekend with specific information regarding my specific case and medical/nutrition advice of a vegan transition nature. Even though she hasn’t opted to go vegan herself. Another beautiful young woman, model-gorgeous and looking half of her 39 years is Eriyah Flynn. I located Eriyah at http://facebook.com She is a well-known public speaker and Vegan advocate who has inspired me, educated me, provided links and moral support for my efforts.
So there’s the outline of my support system. I’m going Vegan cuz I luv animals. That simple. I’ll keep you updated. And a thanks to foamcage.com for this opportunity to be the Connecticut Government Examiner, especially to Chicago Liberal Examiner Julie Kindle Driscoll who has been doing great stuff online, and referred me to this particular project. And thanks to my Unabashed Left readers, as well. Peace…Steve
