As we continue to look at freedom from religious burdens, we will look at the faith into the unknown that brings freedom.
Mark chapter 2, in the Message,”Get up. Pick up your stretcher and go homes.’ And the man did it-got up, grabbed his stretcher, and walked out, with everyone there watching him. They rubbed their eyes, incredulous-and then praised God, saying, ‘We’ve never seen anything like this!”
When a person is a paraplegic they don’t have use of their limbs. The man in this story needed help to be carried into see Jesus. He was a slave to his circumstances. Jesus asked him to do the impossible. ‘Get up. Pick up your stretcher and go home.’ I can’t. Don’t you understand that I need you to heal me first?
YES YOU CAN
Jesus tells him, yes you can. Take a small step. Move into freedom. He tells us the same thing. He wants you to move in a direction that doesn’t make sense. You want to stay put. You like the comfortable. But if you stay put and not move, you are a slave. Freedom comes when you can move in a direction that God calls, even if it doesn’t make sense. Slavery comes when I try to figure out the direction God calls in. I try to rationalize the reason, make sense of the calling, and understand the direction. Freedom is picking up my stretcher, the impossible thing that God wants to do in my life, and moving. Now that’s freedom.
