On the first mission to land on Mars the team crashes on the surface rendering themselves stranded on the Red Planet and out of contact with Earth. With rescue years away and very limited resources the group must make unimaginable moral choices to determine who will live or die.
Vincent Gallo (Luca), Maria de Medeiros (Jenny), Joaquim de Almeida (Fidel), Maria Lidon (Susana), Danel Aser (Herbert), Johnny Ramone (Lowell).
Stranded begins with some very brief character background before plot setup, which looks like a NASA mission, is delivered. From there the plot takes over and the drama begins. Once the Mars mission crew is stranded they quickly realize there is no way they will all survive. In a desperate attempt at bravery, some of the crew set out to explore the planet only to find things they had never imagined possible while at the same time reversing circumstances for those who remain on the crashed ship. Though suspense is build well throughout the film, the ending is a bit of a disappointment.
Acting was rough around the edges from pretty much everyone involved with this one. Gallo overacted regularly while Medeiros and Lidon seemed to lack serious energy. Almeida delivered solidly as usual but couldn’t contribute enough to overcome the rest of the cast.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were all fairly well done, interesting, and did a decent job of making it feel as if the film actually takes place on Mars. Effects were good though the film is beginning to show some age and appear dated. Dialogue was good despite poor delivery and sound was well done.
Overall Stranded has an entertaining storyline and technical aspects were good but acting was seriously lacking and the film never developed the energy it needed to be really good. Sci-fi or drama fans may find some pleasure in this one while fans who enjoy modern CGI and quality acting will be disappointed.
With mild foul language and sexuality this should be fine for older teens and above.
Stranded is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado theaters.
