When two strangers end up in the same hospital room, both diagnosed as terminal with only months to live, they quickly become friends. Edward has the money and Carter has the idea so they create a Bucket List of things they want to do before they die. In a whirlwind of activity the two go skydiving, race car driving, and gambling as they take a last shot at life.
Jack Nicholson (Edward), Morgan Freeman (Carter), Sean Hayes (Thomas), Beverly Todd (Virginia), Rob Morrow (Dr. Hollins), Alfonso Freeman (Roger), Rowena King (Angelica).
The Bucket List starts off looking like a pretty depressing drama as Edward and Carter are diagnosed with only months to live. As the two become friends things get a bit more interesting and the movie really hits a good pace once they start living the last days of their lives. Toward the end the film reverts back to a somewhat depressing drama that will bring a tear to the eyes of most and may prompt some people to go out and add some excitement to their lives.
Acting was pretty good from both Nicholson and Freeman. Nicholson delivers well and it was nice to see they didn’t try to portray him as the ladies man he used to be. Freeman also did well with good emotion throughout the film. Hayes was a lot of fun as well, playing an excellent straight-man to Nicholson. The remainder of the cast supported nicely.
Camera work and sets were well done with good detail. Backgrounds were fun with a nice variety of natural scenery and locations. Effects were minimal but well done, as were sound and soundtrack.
Overall The Bucket List is an entertaining reminder that life is meant to be lived. The film moves along well though some will be frustrated at the combination of drama and mild humor, feeling like the story is somewhat unfocused, while others will love the heartfelt storyline.
With mild foul language, including a couple of sexual references, The Bucket List should be fine for teens and above.
The Bucket List is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theaters.
