Moving herself and her two daughters to an inherited house in the Pennsylvania woods after the death of her husband, Karen hopes the seclusion will help them reconnect as a family. Instead they find strange neighbors and strange things happening. Little do they know the ghosts of children killed almost a decade ago in a mining accident are roaming the woods looking for revenge and playmates.
Lori Heuring (Karen), Scout Taylor-Compton (Sarah), Chloe Moretz (Emma), Geoffrey Lewis (Harold), Ben Cross (Aaron), Craig Vye (Tim), Chris Jamba (Sean), Julie Rogers (Lisa), Martin McDougall (William).
Wicked Little Things begins at a moderate pace with some brief background and plot setup as the Tunny family relocates to their new mountain home. Strange things start happening pretty quickly and the pace along with the horror aspect of the film pick up nicely. Though the plot isn’t entirely original or intricate the film uses horror and plot points to hold audience interest well up through the end which is something of a non-event.
Acting was decent enough from Heuring and Moretz with good emotion. Taylor-Compton overacted a good deal of her role, ruining her potential to steal the film. Lewis did okay while the remainder of the supporting cast felt a bit dry and unpracticed.
Camera work was a problem in this film. Much of the movie took place in darkness that was much too dark and could only be viewed in a dark room. As such a lot of the detail in sets and backgrounds were lost though what could be seen looked good. Effects were gore and action based and again, what could be seen looked pretty good. Dialogue and sound were okay while the soundtrack was pretty mild.
Overall Wicked Little Things is a decent horror entry with a fairly solid plot, good pace, and well done horror components. Those affected by darkness and ghosts will likely find the most pleasure in this one.
With plenty of violence, gore, disturbing images, foul language, brief sexuality and drug use save this one for the oldest teens and above.
Wicked Little Things is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theatres.
