Hugh Jackman (Logan), Halle Berry (Storm), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Patrick Stewart (Xavier), Famke Janssen (Jean), Anna Paquin (Rogue), Kelsey Grammer (Hank McCoy), James Marsden (Scott/Cyclops), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Shawn Ashmore (Bobby/Iceman), Aaron Stanford (Pyro), Vinnie Jones (Juggernaut), Ellen Page (Shadowcat), Daniel Cudmore (Colossus), Ben Foster (Angel).
X-Men 3 begins by jumping straight into the story which will have anyone who hasn’t seen the previous film or two completely lost. As the plot begins to develop the lack of character development is apparent and obviously relies on previous films. The film then settles into a good pace despite a somewhat generic good vs. evil plot that relies more on carnage and special effects than depth or acting. The film concludes with a somewhat expected ending and true to the series, setup for a sequel.
Acting was consistent with the rest of the series though without character development many of the players felt empty or shallow. Janssen had a particularly tough role playing against her already well developed character. It was nice to see Grammer in this one and he did a good job. Jones was also a lot of fun and did well with his part.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were fairly consistent with the series but not as well done as previous episodes. CGI was good and well detailed as was expected. Dialogue was good though it lacked the depth found in other episodes. Sound and soundtrack were good throughout.
Overall X-Men 3: The Last Stand will probably be a disappointment to serious fans of the series. Those who haven’t seen the previous episodes will be lost with this one and shouldn’t waste their time.
With plenty of action violence, mild language, and mild sexual content this should be fine for preens and above.
X-Men 3: The Last Stand is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theatres.
