For over half a century, the people of Korea have awaited in agony to see their homeland reunited. The Republic of Korea (South Korea) and The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) have both agree to work towards reunification. This agreement was the core of the historic June 15th North-South Declaration in which The leaders of both nations met for diplomatic talks for the first time. The question of Korean reunification is subject to intense discussion. All parties involved support reunification however the road towards is it difficult. For one thing, North Korea has stated their intention to do away with international interference. Believing that the reunification question is an internal affair. Since the end of the Korean war The United States has had thousands of troops stationed in the Demilitarized zone to protect the south in the case of any potential North Korean aggression. Indeed however, even South Korean citizens have opposed United States troops being stationed in the country. Korean reunification is necessary for both nations. North and South. It is imperitive to see reunification happen soon. With one united Korea, denuclearization of the peninsula is most likely. That would mean no more provacations on North Korea’s part on the rest of the world and no more need for United States troops being stationed in the homeland of the Korean people. The Korean people have time and time again sought national identity. After Japan’s brutal occupation of the Peninsula, it is a shame that though no longer under Japanese control, the country is still not whole. The Korean people have long to see their families again. Split as a result of the divided land and the devestating Korean war which saw the deaths of over 1 million people. The Korean people, brave, intelligent, and honorable deserve to have national identity and expand in power. From the South, a strong economy. From the North, a strong military before the world. With Korean reunification, a new Asia will be born with much cooperation between it and the world.
