“I would say that America’s going to fall in love with her from [her reality series, Sarah Palin’s Alaska],” predicted none other than Oprah Winfrey, as reported in PARADE’s December 26 cover story.
Who is this lady was this author’s first reaction to the initial advertisements of “Oprah is coming” so many years ago. When she did arrive on our living room screens, we fell in love with her. And the love affair lasted until Oprah endorsed Obama. It was then that many of us discovered our loving embrace, a genuine joy because we felt so much trust in our love for her – had never been returned – merely tolerated and possibly exploited. It was painful to learn our idol had clay feet.
Oprah, for the first time, was supporting a candidate for the presidency. Because Obama was who he was and because of Oprah’s wholehearted support, the truth was out. Oprah’s image was fabricated because no way she could have supported Obama unless somewhere within, somewhere we had never thought to look, Oprah felt the way he did about America, about white Americans, about “fundamentally” changing our country.
Pastor Wright and his theology, shared by Obama for twenty years and Oprah for a briefer but still significant time, combined with the vision shared by Oprah and Obama, left no place for many of us. Scorned, we had the good sense to recognize when we had been duped and we kicked Oprah right out of our living rooms in huge numbers – just as we hope to kick Obama under the bus in 2012. We have Oprah and Obama to thank for showing us the light, through their prism of their racism, in glaring black and white.
And now Oprah is moving forward in her career, doing a reality tv show of her own and taking time to comment on another lady, loved by the masses, Sarah Palin. Oprah’s thought that “America is going to fall in love with her, ” does ignore the truth that so many Americans already have fallen in love with Sarah Palin,
Like Oprah, Sarah Palin has the ability to change hearts, with a speech, with her books, with “Sarah Palin’s Alaska”. Palin’s realness, Palin’s common-sense values touch a core of America that many wish would just go away, die out and vanish. Heartland Americans are trusting souls. Look how long Oprah fooled us – now we look past the wrappings, past the hype to simpler things, traditional values like common sense.
Following are some famous Oprah inspirational quotes, transcribed from sources all over the web about Oprah’s feelings – the kind of inspiration that awakened America to the phenomenon that was Oprah. Imagine Sarah saying
- Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.
- Every time you state what you want or believe, you’re the first to hear it. It’s a message to both you and others about what you think is possible. Don’t put a ceiling on yourself.
- Don’t back down just to keep the peace. Standing up for your beliefs builds self-confidence and self-esteem.
- Always continue the climb. It is possible for you to do whatever you choose, if you first get to know who you are and are willing to work with a power that is greater than ourselves to do it.
“I always knew I was destined for greatness,” is an Oprah quote that no one would ever hear Sarah voice. But that’s ok, America knows ‘greatness’ when they see it. “Greatness” was written in the palm of Sarah’s hand the day she was born.
