Oprah was asked yesterday, by Parade Magazine in an interview that briefly touched on Sarah Palin. What did she think of Sara Palin?
She responded, “I don’t know her so I can’t speak to [whether or not she’ll be a candidate]. But I would say that America’s going to fall in love with her from [her reality series, Sarah Palin’s Alaska]. Oprah then said, “When I saw that first episode, I went, ‘Whoa! She is charming and very likable.'”
This was a straight from the heart comment, from one of America’s favorite women, a roll model, a philanthropist, actress, talk show host and the world richest woman according to Forbes list of 100 top celebrities.
Asked by Parade Magazine whether the thought of Palin’s running for office scares her, Oprah said,
“It does not scare me because I believe in the intelligence of the American public.” This comment could be taken either way depending on one’s perception of Oprah or political leaning.
Oprah Winfrey vigorously campaigned for then candidate Obama, while on the road on a number of occasions. In fact it can be said she coined the phrase “the one we’ve been waiting for.”
Apparently she is not aware how uneducated and ignorant the “American public” actually is. The YouTube video at the left of this story shows during spontaneous unscripted questioning the lack of education and ignorance by those who cast their ballots.
Doubtless, had the same questions been asked of Republican voters similar responses may have been offered?
Disturbing, yet predictably so, is the role of the media and its effect among the uneducated glaringly appeared. This was fully exposed when certain questions were asked and answered about candidate Palin.
Ask any serious questions about the candidates, or the political process for the most part the respondents were unable to handle. Such “serious questions” as “what do you think about Obama picking Sarah Palin as his running mate?” The response, “that’s cool.”
One is left to ponder about Ms. Winfrey’s faith in today’s voter.
But let’s give Oprah a complete pass, suffice to say she is a great woman and leave it at that.
Which brings us to Hollywood mogul Steven Spielberg offering to Nancy Pelosi advice on rebranding Democrats.
Spielberg on the other hand is a longtime Democratic power player who backed Hillary Clinton in the 2008 election cycle but has since raised money for President Obama.
In fact included, in the yesterday’s Washington Post appearing to be lost amid the activity around the busy last day of Congress was news that lawmakers say Pelosi is now “consulting marketing experts about building a stronger brand.”
According to the Post, in an oft-used tactic by opponents of vulnerable Democrats in the midterm elections was to tie those Democratic representatives to their party leader, Pelosi, who was often described derisively as a liberal possessing “San Francisco values.”
As they say in Hollywood, “cut, no there is need for consultants or Mr. Spielberg to save the taxpayer’s money.
Had the power brokers among the Democrats consulted this reporter long before the November blood bath he would have offered the following: “this boat won’t float,
” After the election the new party brand will be “you lied, your party died.” For branding for the new Nancy, some things are best left unsaid. Actually this could win her favor, “I’ve grounded my private Air Force and ordered a new broom.”
Sadly for you Nancy and Mr. Spielberg socialism by any other brand is still socialism. It has never worked it can’t work because as Margaret Thatcher is credited with saying “Eventually you run out of other people’s money.”
You and President Obama have done that and no name change can repair our country or save the party you stubborningly destroyed. The repair begins when the last of you are run out of Washington.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it, I’m J.C.
